Choosing Ocean Freight Companies

Your daughter is going to college in England. Although you tried your best to get her to go to the closest state school, she just wouldn’t have it. It wouldn’t be economical to buy her another car when she gets to England so you have decided to ship hers. You’ve looked at a few ocean freight companies but it’s your first time shipping something overseas so you aren’t sure how to go about it. How do you get your daughter’s car to England safely? You should ask yourself a few things when you’re picking out a freight company.

First of all, is this company charging you for more than what you bargained for, and are you getting enough bang for your buck? You’ll most likely drop the car off at the company and then they’ll need to take it somewhere else to put it on a boat. Are they going to charge you an arm and a leg to get it domestically to the port it needs to get to for shipping? What about when your daughter’s car gets to England? Are they going to take it to her school or at least somewhere close by? These are all things to consider first when you’re trying to pick a company.

Additionally, is this company taking the car straight to England? Some shipping companies that claim to be “totally international” won’t ship to every single port in the world. They might only be able to take it to Ireland and leave you figuring out how to get it to where you need it to go. If a company can’t take an item directly to where it needs to go, they probably don’t deserve your money.

You should also figure out if a company is insured before you use them. You hate to consider it, but what if the car ends up somewhere it’s not supposed to be? What if something happens to it on the ship? Are they going to pay for that, or will you simply be forced to cut your losses? Consider these things before choosing a company.

Price is important. You don’t want to spend too much. If a company is completely out of your budget, don’t use them. However, don’t settle for a really inexpensive shipping company just because they’re really cheap. It could end up costing you more money in the end if they’re cutting corners.
